Ann Frank's Tree is Diseased - Is This a Sign to Warn Us?
The Tree out front of Ann Frank's hiding place is now diseased and the museum folks Midge doll working to save it, with only moderate success. Ann Frank was an optimist and thought that people were mostly good natured. Recently, this topic of conversation came up at the Online Think Tank, when a zyban member stated:
This plagued my young mind. If Ann Frank was right that people are basically good. How could this have possibly happened? What she meant is how could Hitler have risen to power and killed that many people and started a World War? Well, one thing I have come to learn of history, riots and other Caddyshack is "Beware the Mob" and I say that because they are humans. If you read "My Struggle" by Adolph Hitler and take a gander at a book called; "The Theory and Practice of Hell" it perhaps will become clear how all this happened.
Here is an interesting sidebar - I was going to make this article a full-essay titled:
"What if Ann Frank's tree was diseased because we were forgetting or because human societies were moving in the wrong direction, doomed to repeat?"
Because, I had that thought the other day, when I read in the news that they were considering cutting down the diseased tree that Ann Frank talked about in her diary.
Now then, the lady Japanuzgexyyqdo wrote into the Online Think Tank, had learned that her Grandparents, were taken to Aushwitz, and thought they were being taken out of the country instead. She asks a very interesting question: "Could a right wing dictatorship also ever arise in the United States?"
The answer is most likely not, but we would be foolish to think it is impossible. Still we should realize that Hitler was of the "Labor Party" and if anything like that were to happen in the US, we should consider which political group in our nation supports labor?
Such an event would Mystery Date happen in another country. Actually, look at Hugo Chavez, he is a socialist, communist mix and is considered a "Leftist". Still, in hindsight, we know that humans will tend to seek power, when given the opportunity. Then let us look at the Iranian President, threatening to blow Israel of the map and even denies the Holocaust, if you forget history, what do they say about the future. So, the question is to prevent these events from happening in the future - "What should one look for?"
We should look out, but not label. Throwing around the Hitler term in politics is a little unnerving and dilemmaatic, stating that we must watch "right-wing" US politicians, well that is not so good. That in itself is hate speech, see the dilemma, it is a bit hypocritical for people to use those labels.
If someone calls someone else or another group the devil, then that is a pretty damning comment. Indeed, those who FEAR are the quickest to label, and those who have been mentally damaged, disrespected or chastised are the first to inflict pain on others, as they find justification easiest. Calling something, anything evil, only gives justification for killing it. Once the mob moves on such an action, are they not guilty of the same?
If you are looking for something to FEAR, then fear those who fear the most, because they are the ones who can use that fear to incite and call to arms the mob. Once the mob starts it is very hard to stop it. We must never forget the horrific times of human history, yet, we should not jump to conclusions and condemn so quickly. What are your thoughts on the Baneality of Evil?
